Urban nature and urban biodiversity receive more and more attention \u2013 especially in times of pandemic and crisis. The film tells the post-war history of Berlin through its plants \u2013 from the rubble landscapes and their unique ecologies to Berlin\u2019s characteristic wastelands with their spontaneous vegetation from all over the world and the abandoned roofs of the Friedrichshagen waterworks on the outskirts of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What has remained of Berlin\u2019s brownfields and utopias? And what can be learned from the example of Berlin\u2019s urban vegetation for the future \u2013 also in Hamburg?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Film projection (70 min.) followed by a discussion between Matthew Gandy<\/a>, director and Professor of Cultural and Historical Geography, Cambridge University, Fellow of the University of Hamburg 2021\/22 at HIAS, and Emily Jones<\/a>, Associate Professor of German Studies and Environmental Humanities at Whitman College, Fellow of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and Universit\u00e4t Hamburg 2023\/24 at HIAS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The film will be shown in German with English subtitles.
