{"id":5657,"date":"2023-01-19T16:08:00","date_gmt":"2023-01-19T15:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novamondo-dev.de\/hias\/?post_type=events&#038;p=5657"},"modified":"2023-11-13T16:49:37","modified_gmt":"2023-11-13T15:49:37","slug":"assisted-suicide-two-perspectives","status":"publish","type":"events","link":"https:\/\/hias-hamburg.de\/en\/events\/assisted-suicide-two-perspectives\/","title":{"rendered":"Assisted Suicide \u2013 Two Perspectives"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">General practitioner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.degam.de\/praesidium-mitglieder\/prof-dr-med-martin-scherer\">Martin Scherer<\/a> and medical ethicist <a href=\"https:\/\/hias-hamburg.de\/en\/fellow\/urban-wiesing\/\">Urban Wiesing<\/a> will address a topic that is controversially debated in all modern societies and can be of central importance to an individual. It is about assisting suicide and the question: Is it permissible &#8211; and if so, under what conditions &#8211; to assist other people in a voluntary suicide? The occasion that now specifically leads to this event is the discussion around this question in Germany following the judgement of the German Federal Constitutional Court in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the first part, Urban Wiesing will look at the theoretical, especially the existential and the moral aspects of assisting suicide. Who is allowed to decide on this in a liberal society and based on which criteria? What may a state regulate in this respect? In the second part, Martin Scherer will address the same issue, but from a completely different perspective. He will describe how the problem presents itself to him as a practising doctor and point out the difficulties of practising assisted suicide.
