As a result of the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops, various countries such as Germany, but also the EU, have frozen and even ended scientific ties with Russia and Belarus \u2013 an unprecedented process. Is a paradigm shift taking place here? Is science turning from a bridge-builder into a means of exerting political pressure? Are we witnessing the beginning of the end of academic freedom \u2013 or the introduction of a value orientation into international research cooperation in order to protect universal values? Given the magnitude of these developments, there is an urgent need for science to take a stand on this challenge and engage in this important debate. The joint event of DESY and HIAS aims to contribute to this discourse and also allow international voices to have their say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
