As part of a workshop organized by Nathan Brown<\/a>, HIAS invites you to a panel discussion:<\/p>\n\n\n\n There are as many ways of handling religion in public life, but in almost all societies there are controversies:school curricula, public space, dress, family law and practices. Much international attention on these issues focus on locations in the global South. But even self-proclaimed secular societies in the global North experience deep controversies over how two realms\u2013that of official law and policy and of that of faith, community, and practice\u2013intersect and overlap. In this panel, a collection of scholars who have worked comparatively on issues of religion and state will reflect on global patterns for religion-state relations.
