Project at HIAS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During his fellowship, Marc-Thorsten H\u00fctt will work on the fundamentals of self-organized patterns and collective behavior in graphs. The focus will be on excitable dynamics, as they are relevant to our understanding of the brain, with the aim of understanding the implications of these theoretical insights for neuroscientific questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His tandem partner is Claus Hilgetag, a professor at the University of Hamburg\u2019s Faculty of Medicine, Director of the Institute for Computational Neuroscience at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), and a member of the Hamburg Academy of Sciences.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Biography<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Marc-Thorsten H\u00fctt is a professor of computer-based systems biology at Constructor University in Bremen. Previously, he was an assistant professor of bioinformatics and theoretical biology at the Technical University of Darmstadt (until 2006). From 2000 to 2005, he was also a member of the Young Academy (a joint institution of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina), and since 2019 he has been a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His research is situated in the fields of systems biology and systems medicine, bioinformatics, statistical physics of complex networks, and the theory of self-organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marc-Thorsten H\u00fctt focuses on dynamic processes in networks. In his work, he seeks to understand the relationship between network architecture and collective dynamic behavior using simple mathematical models. Together with his research group, he uses the results of these studies to gain a better understanding of high-throughput data in biology and medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
