Lisa Herzog has been Professor of Political Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy and at the Center for Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the University of Groningen, Netherlands, since 2019. Before that she taught at the Technical University of Munich as well as at the universities in Frankfurt and St. Gallen and visited the universities of Leuven, Utrecht, and Stanford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her most recent English monograph, \u201cReclaiming the System. Moral Responsibility, Divided Labor, and the Role of Organizations in Society\u201d (OUP 2018) deals with the question of individual responsibility in complex organizations based on divided labor, and received the habilitation award in philosophy from Goethe University Frankfurt. Her latest book for a broader audience \u201cDie Rettung der Arbeit. Ein politischer Aufruf\u201d (Hanser Berlin 2019) discusses questions of digitization in connection with justice and democracy in the world of work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During her time at HIAS, Lisa Herzog will focus on a project entitled \u201cDemocratic Knowledge. Markets, Experts, and the Epistemic Infrastructure of Democracy,\u201c which deals with the interplay of knowledge processes in markets and democracies as well as with the tension between democratic equality and epistemic inequality. This interdisciplinary project combines the history of ideas and systematic arguments in order to develop a theory of democratic knowledge structures, encompassing both fundamental questions of justice and applied questions of institutional design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her collaboration partner is Prof. Dr. Ulrich G\u00e4hde, professor emeritus of Philosophy of Science and Epistemology at the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Hamburg as well as member of the Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Hamburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lisa Herzog\u2019s HIAS Fellowship was provided by the Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Hamburg.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
