Since 2004 Stefan Huster has been chair of Public Law, Social and Health Law and Legal Philosophy as well as director of the Institute for Social and Health Law at the Ruhr-Universit\u00e4t Bochum. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Central Ethics Committee (ZEKO) at the German Medical Association. Since 2019, Huster has been chairman of the Arbitration Board for the Determination of Reimbursement Rates for Innovative Medicines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His research focuses on constitutional law, health law and legal philosophy. He is particularly interested in interdisciplinary research, especially in fundamental and detailed questions of the system of health care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his research project at HIAS, Stefan Huster investigates the principles and procedures for an appropriate and fair pricing of pharmaceuticals. For more than ten years, there has been a controversially discussed model in Germany, including so-called early benefit assessment and a negotiation of the reimbursement level. Considering the high prices for personalized pharmaceuticals (e.g., gene therapy) this model seems to reach its limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stefan Huster\u2019s tandem partners are Dagmar Felix, chair of Public Law and Social Law at the University of Hamburg, and Jonas Schrey\u00f6gg, professor for Health Care Management and academic director of the Hamburg Center for Health Economics at the University of Hamburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His HIAS Fellowship is funded by the Joachim Herz Foundation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
