In order to have stable networks with different geographical regions that go beyond the temporary presence of individual fellows, HIAS seeks to establish cooperations with institutes from African, South American, Asian, and Eastern European countries. For instance, HIAS has established a collaboration with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/stias.ac.za\/\">Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (<u>STIAS<\/u><\/a>)&nbsp;in South Africa. Similarly, a joint fellowship has been set up with the <a href=\"http:\/\/calas.lat\/\">Center of Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Networks between Institutes for Advanced Study in Germany and internationally also play an important role. For HIAS, as a relatively young institute, it is crucial to be part of a learning community and to contribute to the ongoing process that Institutes for Advanced Study around the world are undertaking to gain public visibility.&nbsp;For instance, HIAS was admitted to the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/netias.science\/home\">European Network of Institutes for Advanced Study (<u>NetIAS<\/u>)<\/a> in 2021. HIAS is also actively involved in the informal but regular meetings of&nbsp;German Institutes for Advanced Study initiated by FRIAS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These meetings provide an opportunity to learn from each other as institutions while focusing on best practices, to address common challenges, to discuss issues of common interest, and to position oneself within the research-related discourses in Germany. One of these is the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/netias.science\/project_constructive-advanced-thinking\"><u>CAT<\/u>&nbsp;program <em>(Constructive Advanced Thinking)<\/em><\/a>,&nbsp;which aims to invite groups of young international researchers to meet for a short period of time at different Institutes for Advanced Studies across Europe to work on their joint research topics \u2013 and to interact with different IAS and their fellows.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group Accordion__item has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-content-justification-space-between is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-f36ac205 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading Accordion__title has-xlarge-font-size\">CALAS<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group Accordion__wrapper has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group Accordion__content has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/calas.lat\/\">Maria Sibylla Merian Center for Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS)<\/a>&nbsp;and HIAS annually announce a joint fellowship that has the unique feature of combining teaching and research while getting to know several institutions in Germany.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group Accordion__item has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-content-justification-space-between is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-f36ac205 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading Accordion__title has-xlarge-font-size\">STIAS<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group Accordion__wrapper has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group Accordion__content has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through the cooperation with <a href=\"https:\/\/stias.ac.za\/\">STIAS<\/a>, HIAS regularly invites early career researchers from the African continent who have been awarded a three-year&nbsp;<em>Iso Lomso<\/em>&nbsp;fellowship&nbsp;<em>(Iso Lomso meaning \u201cthe eye of the tomorrow\u201d<\/em>), to spend a few months researching in Hamburg. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group Accordion__item has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-content-justification-space-between is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-f36ac205 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading Accordion__title has-xlarge-font-size\">FZH<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group Accordion__wrapper has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group Accordion__content has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This local cooperation is an example of how HIAS can act as a platform to connect incoming fellows from Hamburg partner institutes with the interdisciplinary dynamics of the HIAS fellow community.&nbsp;This local cooperation with the <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/zeitgeschichte-hamburg.de\/about-the-fzh.html\">Research Centre for Contemporary History in Hamburg (FZH)<\/a>&nbsp;is an example of how HIAS can act as a platform that allows fellows from other Hamburg research institutions to participate in and benefit from the interdisciplinary dynamics within the HIAS fellow community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zeitgeschichte-hamburg.de\/contao\/index.php\/startseite.html\">FZH<\/a>&nbsp;invites applications for fellowships on urbanity and urban history from a contemporary historical perspective. The fellowships offer scholars with a track record of relevant research the opportunity to work on their own project in this field in Hamburg. The call is primarily addressed to scholars (PostDoc\/Professor) working at universities or research institutions outside of Germany.&nbsp;The duration of the fellowships is up to four months each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cooperation with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zeitgeschichte-hamburg.de\/contao\/index.php\/startseite.html\">FZH<\/a> offers fellows the opportunity to participate in and benefit from the academic life of both the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zeitgeschichte-hamburg.de\/contao\/index.php\/startseite.html\">FZH<\/a> and the HIAS. This includes public events as well as transdisciplinary exchange in internal colloquia.
