From isolation to integration: A multi-disciplinary approach to sensory loss research

#Thursday Colloquium by Bamini Gopinath

The presentation by Bamini Gopinath gives an overview of how current public health research aims to tackle a complex condition such as sensory loss (vision and/or hearing loss). She will touch on projects that are focused on using large population datasets that have provided novel community-based evidence on the health determinants and health outcomes associated with a sensory loss (with a focus on hearing loss) and disability. She also highlights ongoing research that aims to translate this evidence into practice, with the intention of targeting current gaps that exist in health services and policies. Finally, Bamini Gopinath provides an outline of her current HIAS fellowship project and how this will contribute new perspectives or ways of thinking, and integrate aspects of psychological, social and/or humanities approaches into sensory loss research.

This event is addressed to HIAS fellows and their tandem partners.
