AI in science: a method or a colleague?
Hamburger Horizonte · Panel Discussion

Like people in many professions, scientists are concerned about how AI will change their day-to-day work. In this event, a multidisciplinary panel boldly embarks on an exploratory discussion about scientific work in the age of artificial intelligence.

The key questions in this panel discussion are: How is AI changing science, the day-to-day work of scientists, but also scientific methods? Does AI change our concept of understanding in science? Are there differences between the natural and technical sciences and the humanities, cultural and social sciences?

These questions will be discussed on the podium and afterwards with the audience:

Birte Glimm, member of the AI focus group of the German Council of Science and Humanities, works on knowledge representation and automatic reasoning

Marc-Thorsten Hütt, physicist with an interest in complex systems, who works in the fields of bioinformatics and systems biology

Sabine Maasen, sociologist working in the fields of science and innovation research

Jan-Hendrik Passoth, sociologist of technology and head of the Science & Technology Studies Group at the European New School of Digital Studies

Andreas Sudmann, media scientist and scientific coordinator of an interdisciplinary research group on the topic of ‘How is Artificial Intelligence Changing Science?’
