More than 117 million people worldwide are fleeing war, violence, and massive human rights violations. Many of them come to Europe via the dangerous Mediterranean route. Children and adolescents, women, and queer people, in particular, face special safety risks while fleeing. They are more likely than others to fall victim to human traffickers and to sexual and gender-based violence. Traumatic experiences before, during, and after their flight cause severe psychological distress. Drawing on scientific research and personal experiences, this panel discussion examines the safety risks refugees face along their routes and after arriving in Germany. The event concludes with a film screening
