A conversation with Jonas Grethlein on his Antike und Identität. Die Herausforderungen der Altertumswissenschaften (Mohr-Siebeck 2022)
In recent years Classics has been the object of controversy: For some the discipline is complicit to racism, elitism, and other exclusionary practices; for others Classics is the source of our cultural (Western) identity that must be preserved.
In this event, Jonas Grethlein, Professor of Greek Language and Literature at the University of Heidelberg and recipient of the Leibniz Prize of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) will discuss this phenomenon with HIAS fellows John T. Hamilton (Harvard) and Athanassios Vergados (Newcastle).
