#Thursday Colloquium with Daniel Bowles
Not since the early nineteenth century and the age of the fairy tale has the fantastic played a measurable role in canonical German literary history. In his Thursday Colloquium, Daniel Bowles explores the recent new influx of the fantastic into contemporary German-language novels, such as Reinhard Jirgl’s Nichts von euch auf Erden (2012), Sharon Dodua Otoo’s Adas Raum (2021), and Christian Kracht’s Air (2025). With his co-fellows, he aims to explore the narratological, historical, sociocultural, and political contexts for this incipient shift in the German literary imagination.
This event is addressed to fellow and their tandem partners.
