Blickwechsel. An African-European Exchange

Tsitsi Dangarembga (Scholar/ Artist in residence at HIAS) and Eva Heidbreder (Scholar in residence at Europa-Kolleg Hamburg) in conversation

The city of Hamburg’s two scholars in residence discuss some of the most pressing questions of our time: How decolonized is the world we live in—and in which ways does the empire persist? What does this mean for Africa and Europe—and where do individuals find themselves in these global structures? What are alternative dynamics—and what role do women play in this? Tsitsi Dangarembga’s recent essays «Black and Female» (2022) and Eva Heidbreder’s academic take on Europe and beyond serve as starting points for a dialogue that invites us to change perspective, in order to challenge entrenched legacies of European thinking and to open the view for what the other sees.
