There’s Method in the Madness: A Situational Analysis of Brazil under Bolsonaro

In his talk, Frédéric Vandenberge presents an interdisciplinary, multi-scalar situational analysis of Brazil under Bolsonaro. Using variations of scale, he analyzes how small events can ripple through the system, destabilize it and bring it to the edge of structural collapse. Based on the sociology of knowledge of Karl Mannheim, he develops a theory of societal change that integrates events, conjunctures, systems and civilizations in an empirical philosophy of history.
