#Tuesday Spotlight with Deniz Peters
In the frame of the workshop “Musical Performance as Epistemic Practice” Deniz Peters, Professor for Artistic Research in Music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, shares insights into the concept of artistic research and discusses it together with with Jan-Philipp Sprick, President of the Hamburg University of Music and Drama, and HIAS Fellows 2024- 25 during the #Tuesday Spotlight.
In his lecture he tries to get across in what sense the neologism “artistic research” stands for some specific kinds of artistic practices, and what is so fascinating about these. He gives some hunches on what senses of research are used by the practices going under this name, what we might gain through artistic research, and most importantly: how. Apart from a broad agreement that artistic research proceeds through first person experiences and actions, notions differ significantly concerning the aim, kind of reflection, role of language, kind of results, and topic domains of artistic research. Deniz Peters goes on to propose a concept that joins thought that proceeds through an artistic medium with thought that proceeds through language.
This event is addressed to fellows and their tandem partners.
