Globalized Nature, Ecology, and the Future City: Learning from Berlin

What can architects, planners, and urban policy makers learn from the unique
experience of post-war Berlin as a centre for international developments in urban
ecological research? Artists and scientists in Berlin have led the way in developing new
conceptions of urban nature and in highlighting the importance of urban
biodiversity. More recently, these pioneering ideas have been incorporated into a series
of innovative new park designs and highly successful cultural programmes.
